Changing Your Plan: Upgrades, Downgrades & Cancellation

Membership Guide

Written by Faith W

You can move between plans anytime from your account settings. Here's what happens to your nights, credits, and listings when you do.

Your membership is fully in your control. You can upgrade for more nights upfront, downgrade to a lighter plan, or cancel entirely — all from Account → Billing & Subscription. Before any change is final, you'll always see exactly what you keep and what you give up.

Where to make changes

  1. Go to Account Settings and open Billing & Subscription or directly to https://hostshare.co/account/billing.

  2. Under Current plan, choose Change your plan to upgrade or downgrade, or Cancel membership to end your plan.

  3. Review the summary of what changes, confirm, and you're done. Your nights and credits update the moment your plan changes.

Upgrading your plan

Upgrading (for example, Starter+ to Pro, or Pro to Pro+) takes effect immediately. You'll receive your new tier's larger grant of upfront nights and any included credits right away, on top of everything you've already earned.

  • You keep all your earned nights and credits.

  • You gain your new tier's granted nights and credits immediately.

  • Moving onto Pro or Pro+ means you take on a share contract for your listings.

Downgrading your plan

Downgrading (for example, Pro+ to Pro, or Pro to a Starter plan) also updates your account right away. You keep every night you earned by hosting, but the upfront nights and credits your paid plan granted you go away.

You keep: Earned nights — earned by hosting · never expire
You forfeit: Granted nights + credits — the upfront nights and credits from your paid plan.

A few specifics to know when downgrading:

  • You can only downgrade if you've earned at least as many nights as you've traveled. If you've used more travel nights than you've earned through hosting, you won't be able to downgrade from a Pro plan to a Starter plan yet — you'll need to share more nights first. If you've shared more than you've used or never traveled on the platform, you're free to downgrade.

  • Moving from a Pro plan to a Starter plan: you lose your upfront (granted) nights, and any upfront credits from your Pro or Pro+ plan are also forfeited. Your earned nights stay with you.

  • No refunds. There are no refunds or partial refunds when you downgrade after payment has been made.

  • Remember that on the Starter tiers, credits can be unlocked and accumulated but can't be spent until you're back on a Pro or Pro+ plan.

Why the earned-vs-traveled rule? Your upfront nights come with a share commitment. Requiring that you've earned at least as many nights as you've traveled before downgrading makes sure no one can take their granted nights, travel on them, and then drop to a free plan without holding up their side of the exchange.

You'll always see the numbers first. Before you confirm any downgrade, we show you exactly how many nights you keep, how many you forfeit, and any credits you'll lose — so there are no surprises.

Cancelling your membership

If you'd like to leave entirely, you can cancel your membership and unlist from the same Billing & Subscription page. Cancelling is a bigger step than downgrading:

  • You lose everything in your wallet — all nights and all credits, both granted and earned.

  • Your listings are removed from search and from new bookings.

You'll see a summary of exactly what will be forfeited and need to check a box confirming you understand before the cancellation goes through.

Confirmed bookings must still be honored

Cancelling your membership does not release you from bookings members have already made. Any confirmed guest stays at your listings will still be honored — you're responsible for those reservations even after you cancel.

If you have upcoming trips as a traveler

If you've booked stays at other members' properties and you cancel your membership, we'll prompt you to make a choice:

  • Cancel those trips too as part of cancelling your membership, or

  • Keep your membership so you can keep those upcoming trips.

Property sold or no longer available? If you're cancelling because you've sold or lost access to your property mid-cycle, you may avoid a penalty by providing proof. See our Membership Cancellation & Refund Policy for details.
