The New Hostshare: Frequently Asked Questions

Written by Faith W

Everything you need to know about the new membership tiers, your wallet, fees, sharing, booking, and the migration — all in one place.

Membership & Tiers

What are the membership tiers?
There are four tiers: Starter (free), Starter Plus ($20/mo), Pro ($299/yr), and Max ($799/yr). Each comes with a different amount of upfront nights, credits, and access to features. Starter and Starter Plus have no share contract; Pro and Max do.

Which tier is right for me?
Starter is great for first-time members exploring the platform for free. Starter Plus suits occasional travelers who want nights that never expire with no annual commitment. Pro is our most popular tier, ideal for hosts who travel a few times a year. Max is built for frequent travelers, with the most nights upfront and a $1,000 credits balance.

Can I change tiers later?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and carry over all your existing nights and credits. Downgrades take effect at the end of your billing cycle. When you downgrade, granted nights and credits may be forfeited, but earned nights and credits are kept on paid tiers.

Wallet, Nights & Credits

What's the difference between nights and credits?
Nights are used to book stays at other members' properties. Credits are worth $1 each and apply to the Hostshare service fee at checkout. Both are tracked in your wallet.

Do my nights and credits expire?
On all paid tiers, nights and credits never expire — they roll over and accumulate year over year for as long as your membership stays active. On the free Starter tier, nights expire 6 months after they're granted.

What's the difference between "granted" and "earned"?
Granted nights and credits come with your tier at signup and renewal. Earned nights and credits come from hosting activity, reviews, referrals, and promotions. When you book, your earned balance is used first.

How do credits renew?
At each annual renewal, credits refresh based on your tier — $100 for Pro and $1,000 for Max — added on top of any credits you've rolled over. (Founding Members are the exception: $1,000 at migration, then $100 each year going forward.)

Fees

What is the Hostshare service fee?
It's a flat 15% of the comparable Airbnb price for your dates. This single fee covers platform operations, payment processing, and up to $50,000 in damage protection. Your credits apply directly to it, often bringing it down to $0.

What about the cleaning fee?
The cleaning fee is set by each host and paid directly to them. It covers the real cost of preparing the property. Credits cannot be applied to cleaning fees — only to the service fee. For most members, the cleaning fee is the main out-of-pocket cost of a stay.

Is damage protection included?
Yes. Every booking is automatically covered for up to $50,000 in damage protection through our partner, Truvi, funded by the service fee. There's no separate charge and no action needed.

Sharing & Blockouts

How are my share nights calculated?
For Pro and Max members, your share contract is based on your tier's base nights (11 for Pro, 21 for Max, plus 3 per additional listing) and your average nightly rate compared to the platform average. Higher-value properties share more nights and earn more in return; lower-value properties share fewer.

Do I have one contract per listing?
No — share contracts are now membership-level. One contract covers all your listings combined, with nights pooled and split proportionally across your properties.

How do blockout dates work?
Every member gets 200 blockout days per year to protect dates they don't want to share. Starter and Starter Plus members can edit blockouts anytime. Pro and Max members can edit only beyond a rolling 90-day window — the next 90 days lock once set, so edits never affect a booking that's already been made.

What if my property is already booked elsewhere?
Dates booked through your connected calendars are automatically unavailable and count toward your blockout total. If your property is fully booked elsewhere, there's simply nothing to share — and no penalty.

Booking & Search

What happened to Last-Minute and Advanced modes?
They've been replaced by one unified search. You now see every available home across the next six months in a single calendar — no modes to switch between, and the full window is open to every member.

Are bookings instant?
Yes. All bookings on Hostshare are instant — no approval required and no waiting. If a date is open and bookable, you can book it right away.

Cancellations

What happens if I cancel a stay I booked?
It depends on timing: 30+ days before check-in, your nights and cleaning fee are refunded (service fee forfeited); 8–29 days, your nights are refunded (cleaning and service fees forfeited); 7 days or fewer, everything is forfeited and a cancellation strike is added. Verified extenuating circumstances or a host who fails to honor the booking result in a full refund.

What happens if I cancel a booking at my property as a host?
You choose one of two options: pay a $100 cancellation fee ($50 to the guest, $50 to the platform) and keep your account active, or self-ban permanently (forfeiting all credits and nights). Either way the guest is credited $50. Exceptions apply for verified extenuating circumstances or calendar-sync issues.

Can I get a refund on my membership?
Membership fees are refundable within 7 days of your initial payment, as long as you haven't used any travel nights. After that, they're non-refundable. Starter and Starter Plus can cancel anytime; Pro and Max cancelling mid-cycle may face removal for not honoring their share contract (with exceptions for property sale or loss, with proof).

Founding Members & Migration

What is a Founding Member?
If you're a current paid member when the new Hostshare launches, you'll be enrolled as a Founding Member for life — at the Max tier, with your price locked at $395/year forever, a Founding Member badge, and every future Max feature included.

What happens to my nights at migration?
You keep all the nights currently in your account. At your next renewal, you'll receive 21 nights plus 3 per additional listing, in line with the Max tier.

How do I get the full $1,000 in credits?
Set your 200 blockout dates during the migration period and your full $1,000 Founding Member credits grant is applied automatically. If you don't set them during that window, you'll receive $100 instead. After the first year, credits renew at $100 annually.

Do I need to re-list or rebuild anything?
No. Your listing, calendar sync, and payout account all transfer automatically. You'll land in the new platform and it'll feel familiar from day one.
