Host Booking Cancellation Policy

Written by Faith W

When you join Hostshare, you agree to the Share Pledge — a simple but serious commitment: honor every confirmed booking. That trust is what makes free travel nights possible for everyone on the platform. Because of that, canceling a confirmed booking isn't penalty-free by default. This article covers what it costs and where to do it.

The cost of canceling

Canceling a confirmed booking comes with a consequence: a $100 cancellation fee to keep hosting, or leaving the network entirely.

  • Option 1 — Pay the $100 cancellation fee. $50 is credited to the guest and $50 is retained by the platform. Your account stays active.

  • Option 2 — Permanently remove your account. You forfeit all credits and future access. The guest still receives $50.

This applies even in situations that can feel reasonable in the moment — including most maintenance issues. The Share Pledge asks hosts to plan around foreseeable problems in advance by blocking those dates before a guest books, not canceling after the fact. If it was something you could have blocked ahead of time and didn't, the fee (or leaving the network) applies.

Every cancellation is reviewed by our team, and it affects your host rating and standing — repeated cancellations result in removal from the network, separate from any single fee.

If something was truly outside your control

In rare cases, something genuinely outside your control caused the cancellation, and our team may be able to waive the fee. This is evaluated case by case, proof is required, and it isn't something the in-app flow itself can do.

If you think your situation qualifies, contact Hostshare Support before starting the cancellation in the app and explain what happened — we'll let you know what we need from there.

If it turns out your situation doesn't qualify, you'll still go through Bookings → Cancellation options and choose between the $100 fee or leaving the network.

When a fee-free cancellation is approved, the guest's cleaning fee is refunded and any travel nights they used are reinstated.

What doesn't qualify

Changing your mind, forgetting to block dates, or general maintenance are not valid reasons to waive the fee or penalty. Common oversights like calendar neglect or changed preferences do not excuse cancellation fees:

  • Forgetting to block your calendar

  • Changing your mind about a booking

  • General maintenance issues

  • Other similar avoidable errors

Where to cancel

If you need to cancel, go to Bookings → select the reservation → Cancellation options in the app.

Before you can continue, you'll see exactly what's at stake:

  • How many days the guest has to find another place to stay, and a reminder that last-minute cancellations are the #1 reason members leave Hostshare.

  • That your host rating and standing will be affected, and that repeated cancellations lead to removal from the network.

  • The choice you're being asked to make: pay the $100 fee and keep hosting, or leave the network entirely.

That in-app flow is the default path, and it always ends in one of those two outcomes.

Preventing cancellations

Hosts should maintain accurate calendars using their 200 blockout days and keeping calendar sync connected and up to date.
