If you need to cancel a stay you booked, what you get back depends on how far in advance you cancel. Here's exactly how it works.
When you book a stay on Hostshare, your host begins preparing for your arrival — arranging cleaning, scheduling staff, and setting those dates aside. Because of that, the refund of your nights and fees depends on how much notice you give. The earlier you cancel, the more you get back — and you always have a 12-hour grace period right after booking.
What's the minimum service fee? The minimum service fee is $10 per night plus processing. On a 30+ day cancellation, this small amount is the only thing kept — everything else comes back to you. Within the 12-hour booking window, only the processing fee is kept.
Cancellation strikes
Cancelling within 7 days of check-in adds a cancellation strike to your account. Strikes help us keep the community reliable for hosts, who set aside their homes and prep for your stay. A pattern of late cancellations may affect your standing and could ultimately result in removal from the platform.
When you'll be fully protected
Some situations are outside your control, and you won't be penalized for them. You'll receive a full refund of your nights and applicable fees — regardless of timing — if your stay is affected by:
A host who is unresponsive or fails to honor your confirmed booking
A property that is unavailable or materially different from its listing
A verified extenuating circumstance (see below)
Extenuating circumstances
A cleaning fee refund may also be available outside the standard windows if your cancellation is due to a qualifying extenuating circumstance — such as serious illness or injury, government travel restrictions, or a mandatory evacuation due to a natural disaster. Proof is required, and these requests are reviewed individually. See our Extenuating Circumstances Policy for full details on what qualifies and how to request a refund.
