Traveler Booking Cancellation Policy (2.0)

Written by Faith W

If you need to cancel a stay you booked, what you get back depends on how far in advance you cancel. Here's exactly how it works.

When you book a stay on Hostshare, your host begins preparing for your arrival — arranging cleaning, scheduling staff, and setting those dates aside. Because of that, the refund of your nights and fees depends on how much notice you give. The earlier you cancel, the more you get back.

Why the service fee isn't refunded: the Hostshare service fee covers platform costs and damage protection that apply from the moment a booking is confirmed, so it's non-refundable once you've booked.

Cancellation strikes

Cancelling within 7 days of check-in adds a cancellation strike to your account. Strikes help us keep the community reliable for hosts, who set aside their homes and prep for your stay. A pattern of late cancellations may affect your standing and could ultimately result in removal from the platform.

When you'll be fully protected

Some situations are outside your control, and you won't be penalized for them. You'll receive a full refund of your nights and applicable fees — regardless of timing — if your stay is affected by:

  • A host who is unresponsive or fails to honor your confirmed booking

  • A property that is unavailable or materially different from its listing

  • A verified extenuating circumstance

Are you a host needing to cancel a booking at your property? That follows a different policy. See our Host Booking Cancellation Policy for details.
